Roller Skate Wheels Australia

Wheels are one of the most impactful upgrades you can make to any skate setup. The right wheels for your surface and style will make your skating smoother, faster, and more controlled. The wrong wheels will work against you every time you roll.

Understanding Wheel Hardness (Durometer)

Wheel hardness is measured on the durometer scale — lower numbers mean softer wheels, higher numbers mean harder wheels.

Soft wheels (78A–82A) — more grip, better shock absorption, quieter on rough surfaces. Ideal for outdoor skating, street skating, and beginners who want a forgiving ride. Moxi Gummy, Impala, and Labeda wheels in this range are popular for outdoor cruising.

Medium wheels (84A–88A) — versatile, works reasonably well indoors and out. A good all-purpose choice if you skate in multiple environments.

Hard wheels (90A+) — fast, low friction, very responsive. Ideal for rinks and smooth indoor surfaces. RollerBones, Moxi Fundae, and Labeda rink wheels in this range are the go-to for skaters who spend most of their time at a rink.

Wheel Size

For roller skates (quad), wheel diameter typically ranges from 57mm to 65mm. Larger wheels roll faster; smaller wheels give more control. Most recreational quad wheels sit around 58–62mm, which is a solid all-round choice.

Light-up wheels are also available for kids and riders who want something fun — they use LED inserts and work best on smooth surfaces.

Indoor vs Outdoor Wheels

If you regularly skate both at a rink and outdoors, having two sets of wheels and swapping them over is the best approach. It's a quick change with a skate tool and your wheels will last significantly longer when matched to their intended surface.
